Institute of Biology and Medical Genetics, First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University and General University Hospital in Prague

The Institute of Biology and Medical Genetics (IBMG) is one of the oldest institutes of its kind in the world, with a history spanning over one hundred years. It provides instruction in both undergraduate and postgraduate study programs at the First Faculty of Medicine and several other faculties. As a joint unit of the General University Hospital in Prague and the First Faculty of Medicine, the Institute of Biology and Medical Genetics provides comprehensive genetic diagnostics and patient care. IBMG also participates in postgraduate education for medical and healthcare professionals in the field of Medical Genetics. Several unique research programs are conducted in the Centre of Cell Biology and the Experimental Genetics Department of IBMG.

WEEKS 14 and 15

Dear colleagues,

In view of the many questions and despite the information posted here and on our website, I would like to briefly summarise the requirements of weeks 14 and 15 within the framework of simple rules:

Week 14: the content of the practical session consists primarily of a credit test (ROGO, 60 minutes). After that, students who have not yet completed the population genetics or molecular genetics test can re-take them. It is therefore possible to write up to 3 different tests, but the credit test is always written first. Since this is a test week, substitution with another group is not possible! It is also not possible to retake a failed credit test before week 15, again with your group.

Week 15: Those who have passed all three tests and have up to the allowed number of absences (to be verified with your teacher) are eligible for credit and do not have to attend the last practical session. The content is virtually the same as Week 14, i.e., re-takes of the missing tests (credit, molecular genetics, population genetics). Since this is a testing week, substitution with another group is not possible! It is also not possible to retake a failed test before the re-take terms during the exam period (specific dates to be announced very soon).

INFO ON EXAM TEST

This year, as we informed you in the beginning of November in the Examination rules, the Biology and Genetics 2 exam includes, in addition to the oral part, a written exam test. This test will be a written one (so we will not use PC and ROGO environment as in the previous tests). The content will cover both semesters of Biology and Genetics and will focus on practical aspects of medical genetics (genealogical diagrams, risk calculations for different types of inheritance, etc.) You have already encountered all the types of problems that will appear in the exam test in the practical exercises and previous tests. The time allotment for the test is 40 minutes, the test consists of 9 problems, and a minimum score of 30 out of 44 is required to pass the test. The test will be scored immediately and you will be informed whether you are proceeding to the oral part of the exam.

If a student passes the test and subsequently fails the oral part of the exam, he/she will only sit for the oral exam in the following re-takes. If the student fails the examination test three times, he/she will proceed to the oral part of the examination with the proviso that first the examiner will orally verify the knowledge of the subject matter related to the tasks of the failed test and only then, in case of satisfactory responses, will the student proceed to the drawing of a triplet of exam questions and the continuation of the oral examination.

If you still have any doubts about the organisation of the exam etc., please do not hesitate to contact any of the teachers for clarification, we will be happy to provide you with any information.
